About this program
The Dhamma Circle programme, hosted by the Buddhist Library, is an informal monthly gathering that seeks to support participants in their practice of the Dhamma. A typical session includes teaching on the chosen topic, possible sharing by guest speakers and time for discussion and questions.
Upcoming dates and topics include:

- 3rd January “Misunderstanding mindfulness” – the western world had commercialised the meditational techniques teras designed by Gotama Buddha – what was his method really about?
- 7th February “Anatta – no-self – then who and what am I?” – a look into what the anatta doctrine is all about.
- 7th March “ Buddha Guatama’s headache” – The Buddha did not have an easy time trying to introduce his teachings. He had to contend with the prevailing views and doctrines – what were they?
- 4th April “Kamma – Understanding the concept”– Many Buddhists have misunderstood the actual concept of kamma (action) with those proposed by other schools during Buddha’s time. This presentation tries to clarify the Buddha’s concept.
- 2nd May “Coping and healing mechanism – back to nature with flow” – This presentation proposes how engaging the “flow” technique can help healmental and emotional issues.
- 6th June “Suicide – thoughts and reflections” – some insights to this scourge of life.
- 4th July “Is a Buddha also an arhant and vice versa?” – This presentation attempts to clarify.
- 1st August “Path to Liberation” – the Bojjhanga sutta” – The Buddha had promised that practising this sutta will lead the practioner to nibbana.
- 5th September “The decline f Buddhism in India” – this presentation shows how Buddhism finally died in India.
- 3rd October “Bathing the Buddha” – why and how did such practice came about?
- 7th November “Mental factors vs mental stages and vipassana” – This presentation sets about to clarify.
- 5th December “Capacity to cope” – an investigation into one’s coping mechanism.

About the moderator
Bro. Jeffrey is the Founding President of the Association of Psychotherapists and Counsellors (APACS), Certified trainer for Professional Counselling Supervision, Certified Spiritual Counsellor, Certified Meditation instructor, Certified Thanothologist.
Jeffrey had previously served in the management committee of Buddhist Research Society (Buddhist Library) and actively organised spiritual/religious tours for members of BL to India, Sri Lanka and Borobudur. He was an active speaker and presenter in BL’s “Introduction to Buddhism” course and designed the “Introduction to Buddhist Psychology (Abhidhamma)” series that ran for a decade. He organised the first “Science and Buddhism” symposium in 2008 and organised the first “Diploma in Buddhist Studies” in Singapore.
He is presently advisor to Dot Connections Growth Centre (DC), and lectures there and at various dhamma centres.
Bro. Jeffrey has published several books, a number of which are available at the Buddhist Library.
Bro. Jeffrey has a PhD in Counselling Psychology, a Certificate in Comprehensive Buddhist Studies (Buddhist Research Society – Buddhist Library), Dipl. in Buddhist Study (YMBA) , and a Dipl. in Buddhist Study (Buddhist & Pali College)
