The Buddhist Library Funfair: At a Glance

The Funfair is a longstanding and well-loved event that features religious services, a large variety of delicious vegetarian food, sale of Buddhist items and a shopping area. It continues to be one of the most important fund-raising events for the Library.

Be a Stallholder at the Funfair!

Being a stallholder is one way you can practice dana (giving). It is also a meaningful activity that dozens of stallholders and volunteers have enjoyed undertaking for many years.

Stallholder FAQ
How does being a stallholder work?

  • If you are interested to run a stall, you will need to bring your own food or items to sell. The Library will (1) allocate a stall for you to sell your items, (2) a signage for your stall, and (3) an electrical outlet if needed. By default, each stall comprises two front-facing tables and one table for storage/administrative purposes.
  • The Library will not be able to reimburse you for the cost of the food and items you sell. However, we will not charge you anything for being a stallholder, and all volunteers will be provided with lunch and bottled water.
  • All proceeds collected at your stall will go to the Buddhist Library.
  • Please try to plan for at least $200 of sales, so as to help recoup the costs involved in setting up each stall.
  • Note for prospective food stallholders: if you are operating a Food Stall with us for the first time, you will need to attend the Food Safety Level 1 Course onsite at Buddhist Library on Sat 5 Oct 2024, 9am-5.30pm. No payment is necessary as the Library will pay for the costs.

What food can I sell?

  • The food needs to be vegetarian, and it can contain eggs if that is a required ingredient.
  • Please note that food must be prepared before the funfair, and then be brought to the funfair for sale. Open fire cooking and preparation of food on site is not allowed. Appropriate electrical appliances are to be used for warming of food.

What are some non-food items I can sell?

  • We are open to you selling a variety of items. For examples of what stallholders have sold in the past, please see Page 2 of the application form.

Sponsorship

As the costs involved in putting up the Funfair are quite large, we seek your kind support in sponsoring costs of the funfair.

The following table lists expected expenses for the Funfair (click the image to Zoom in), and your sponsorship would go toward acquiring the items below. For example, $11 would pay for the costs of 10 chairs; $144 would pay for the costs of all lights in the Shrine Hall/Non-Food Area; $2,250 would pay for the costs of half the floorboards in the Food Hall and Eating Area at $2,250, etc. General donations of any amount are also welcome!

As Funfair expense items are being sponsored at a speed that is much faster than we can update this website, kindly call the Library at 6746 8435 (closed on Mondays) to confirm your sponsorship before making the PayNow.

We would also appreciate it if sponsorship through cash is made only with notes, as the bank is levying a substantial charge for each deposit of coins we make. Thank you!
